Facilities & Events Crew

Our Facilities & Events Crew are crucial in ensuring we continue to deliver successful and engaging events and activities. This crew will help maintain our U building and ensure our facilities are in top-notch condition. You'll help with general maintenance, event admin, registration and attendee management, cloakroom work etc. This work can be any time of the day. In some cases, successful candidates may progress to a structured part-time role. No experience necessary.

Sound & Light Technician

The Sound & Light Technicians will contribute in a professional manner to the smooth and efficient running of our events in the Venue primarily. You must have a background in sound or light and understand the operation of equipment. You'll be on hand to provide tech support during our events and ensure we're complying with all health and safety regulations.

Photographer & Videographer

This is exactly what it says on the tin! If you're passionate about photography and videography or maybe only one over another, consider joining our team and capture photos and videos that really showcase student life

Graphic Designer

To deliver high-quality design work within our brand guidelines for a variety of OSL projects. The designs that you create will be used across a range of digital and printed channels, including email, posters, social media, and our website. A key focus for the Graphic Designer Intern will be producing collateral for large campaigns like Freshers Week, Clubs & Socs Awards, Lead DCUSU and more. You'll ideally have experience with design software e.g. Adobe Creative Suite (don't worry - we'll cover the cost of the package!)

Research Assistant

Help us highlight potential research and engagement projects from time-to-time, ensuring they are relevant and will further develop our understanding of students' experience at DCU. You'll help us develop and conduct research and/or engagement project(s) including the development of research briefs/event plans; any resources required to complete the project and a final report and presentation. No experience is necessary but an interest in research.

Exams FAQs

During Exams

  • What do I do if I forget my Student ID?

    • Temporary IDs are available from Registry with a €25 fee from 8:30am on the morning of your exam if you forget your card. Failure to present a valid ID Card will require you to complete the ID Audit Process:

      • If you forget your Student ID on the morning of an exam the invigilator will note your name and details and you will be required to report to Registry after the examination. They will conduct an ID audit to verify that you are registered, this will cost €20. If a student presents for a second time to an examination without their current student ID card they will be charged €30, a third time €40, and so on.

After Exams

  • What happens if I fail an exam?

    • If you fail an exam you will have to resit in August. If you fail the August resit for a module, you will have to retake the module in the next academic year. You may not continue to the next year of the degree.

  • Do I have to register for resits?

    • Details about registration are to be confirmed. You can find the most up to date information at this page.

  • Is there a charge for resit exams?

    • Yes, there is a registration fee of €150 for resit exams. If you deferred your first exam, you do not have to pay this fee.

  • Is there a cap on resit grades?

    • There is no cap on resit grades, however your grade from your first attempt will be used for your precision mark (overall grade for the year). All attempts at a module will appear on the final transcript.

    • If a student has deferred their first attempt at a module, then their August resit is their first attempt and will be used in the precision mark calculations.

  • When will the resit exams be?

    • Tuesday 1st August - Monday 14th August

  • Will I have to repeat all of my modules?

    • No, you only need to repeat the module that you have failed.

  • Will I have to pay full fees if I’m only repeating one or two modules?

    • Repeat Fees are €55 per credit plus a full time levy of €277.

      An example would be a 5 credit module (5 credits @ €55 per credit = €275 plus €277 levy = €552).

All Week:

  • Centre for Climate and Society Photo Exhibition

    • This exhibition depicts the devastating impacts of climate change in Ireland and abroad as well as highlighting community initiatives that work to provide more equitable and inclusive responses.

    • Location: Beside Rainbow Walkway (Glasnevin) and digital screens around campus

  • SU Climate Change, Biodiversity and Justice Wall

    • Have your say on what the climate and biodiversity crisis means to you and what we can do about climate justice. OR scan the QR code on the corner of the physical boards and it will link you to the online jamboard. Please keep all comments appropriate.

    • Location: SU Offices on Glasnevin and St. Pat’s, main restaurant on All Hallows

  • DCU Restaurants/Cafes

    • Look out for lots of sustainable initiatives in the DCU Restaurants during Green Week, including carbon footprints on food, sustainable meals and a new reusable cups/containers scheme. On Thursday 23 March get any 12oz hot drink for €1 if you bring your own cup (EXCLUDES: Silver Van).

  • There are several smarter travel initiatives running this week - you can still engage in Ready Set Cycle, you can pick up some free bike lights at the SU reception desks on GLA and SPC during Green Week and you can also take a Tier Bike, for a 30 minute free trial just download the Tier app and use the code: TRYABIKE. For Marchathon participants the DCU competition this week is to submit your best nature based photo from when you are out walking - email your submission to sustainabilitiy@dcu.ie.

  • There will be a Vape/ e-cigarettes device recycling box at the DCU SU Reception desks on GLA and SPC.

    • Joint CCS and Ireland India Institute research seminar exploring how extreme weather events disproportionately affect marginalised communities, such as farmers and low-income households, who have limited resources to cope with the social and environmental impacts these disasters cause.

    • Curious about climate justice? Want to know more about climate activism? Come along to the Climate Justice Fair, where we’ll have NGOs, civil society organisations and community groups on hand to talk about their projects and experiences of working on climate action.

  • #Connected2: Climate and Food

    • An interactive photo exhibit by young people from Ethiopia, Honduras, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Ireland. The exhibit emphasises the ways in which all people and communities are #Connected2 each other through experiences of climate change and global food systems and invites the participant to contribute a photo to describe how they are connected to the topic.

  • Food Cloud Kitchen talk & some free food

    • FoodCloud connects businesses that have surplus food with Charities and Community Groups that need it - in the process, they have prevented more than 81,000 tonnes of food from going to waste. Hear their story and try some of their food! Following a short talk there will be a limited number of vouchers distribution on a first come first served basis for some free lunches at the Food Cloud Food Truck

  • Biodiversity Talk with Lorraine Bell, Biodiversity Officer for DCC

    • The talk will cover the following and will be followed by a tour of the DCU All Hallows biodiversity spaces - Pollination by bee species; the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan; why we need it; the importance of creating corridors; DCC’s measures under the plan; honey bee keeping and wildflower meadows – new messages/direction due to scientific evidence; other top plants for pollinators, including trees; some useful resources.
